Review of grants administration in NSW

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet announced the Review of Grants Administration in NSW (‘the Review’) in November 2021 by NSW Productivity Commissioner, Peter Achterstraat AM and the Department of Premier and Cabinet, to deliver a new Good Practice Guide to Grants Administration and any recommendations by April 2022.

The Premier published the Final Report of the Review of Grants Administration on 7 May 2022.

The Review makes 19 recommendations to the Premier to bring grants administration into line with best practice and ensure NSW Government grants:

  • deliver value for public money in achieving their stated purpose or purposes
  • are robust in their planning and design
  • adopt key principles of transparency, accountability, and probity
  • deliver a high-quality customer experience.

The recommendations include an updated Grants Administration Guide, enhanced probity requirements, a Community of Practice, and a whole-of-government website that makes up-to-date information on grants available to the public.

The Government is considering the Review’s recommendations.
